Our journey with Viajes Puma will start with hiking the Inca Trail Machu Picchu, one of the most iconic treks in the world. This unforgettable Inca Trail to Machu Picchu 4D/3N adventure begins in Cusco, Peru, and takes us deep into the heart of the Andes. Once we arrive at the starting point, we will follow the classic 4 day Inca Trail from KM 82 through the Sacred Valley. Along the way, we’ll explore Inca ruins surrounded by mountains and cloud forests.
Then we’ll travel in a small group guided by local experts. The hike will require physical effort, but the rewards will be extraordinary. We plan to visit the archaeological site of Llactapata before reaching Wayllabamba at 2,900 meters of altitude. We’ll pack our sleeping bags and personal items in advance.
We plan to rise early and cross Warmiwañusca Pass at 4,200 meters above sea level, the highest point of the Peru Inca Trail Machu Picchu. We’ll descend to Pacaymayo for a peaceful night under the stars. Along the way, we may feel the effects of altitude sickness, so staying hydrated is vital.
The third day will lead us past Runkurakay, Sayacmarca, and Phuyupatamarca. We’ll walk through misty forest paths before reaching Wiñay Wayna. These campsites are near spectacular ruins and offer a final rest before our goal on the classic Inca Trail 4 days 3 nights route.
On the last day, we’ll hike before sunrise toward Inti Punku, the Sun Gate. There, we’ll witness our first magical view of Machu Picchu. Our guide will lead a two-hour tour of the citadel, revealing hidden corners and Inca history.
We’ll then return to Cusco first via train and then a bus will leave us at the city. We shall reserve our Inca Trail permits months in advance, especially during the dry season.
The hike to Machu Picchu is challenging but deeply rewarding. VIAJES PUMA, will ensure a safe, guided journey. Let’s discover ancient trails and unforgettable landscapes together.
We will leave Cusco at 5:00 AM, filled with excitement and anticipation to begin the classic 4 days Inca Trail. As the sun rises over the Andes, golden light will spill across the Sacred Valley. We’ll travel to Ollantaytambo, where the cold morning air carries the scent of eucalyptus and fresh earth. After a warm breakfast, we’ll continue to KM 82 the official start of the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu.
At the checkpoint, we’ll present our permits and begin walking along the mighty Urubamba River. The trail winds through a landscape of rugged cliffs, whispering grasses, and towering peaks. The sky will be clear and vibrant, and the Andean breeze will smell of wild herbs and dusty stone. Each step brings us closer to ancient Peru and the magic of the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu 4D/3N.
We will stop in the quiet village of Miskay for a scenic lunch. From there, the path climbs gently to Patallacta (Llactapata), an astonishing Inca site perched above green terraces. Here, we’ll stand in awe of the stonework and views that stretch endlessly across the Sacred Valley. Birds will call from above as the afternoon sun warms our faces.
We’ll stop in Miskay for a scenic lunch, then climb toward Patallacta (Llactapata), perched above green terraces. The views are stunning, and the archaeological remains inspire awe. We’ll continue hiking through changing terrain until reaching Wayllabamba at 2,900 meters (9,514 feet), our first campsite on the classic 4 day Inca Trail.
We’ll rise early and breathe the fresh Andean air as we begin the toughest day of the clasic Inca Trail Machu Picchu 4 days. The trail climbs through an enchanted forest, alive with birdsong and moss-covered trees. We’ll ascend to Ayapata and continue the steep climb toward Warmiwañusca Pass at 4,200 meters.
The ascent will become steeper as we approach Warmiwañusca, the legendary Dead Woman’s Pass, rising to 4,200 meters of altitude. The sun will blaze above us, illuminating the glacier-covered face of Mountain Veronica in the distance. We may feel the altitude in our lungs, but the raw beauty will fuel our determination. The silence up here is absolute, broken only by the wind sweeping across the mountain tops.
At the summit, we’ll pause to absorb the view: a breathtaking panorama of endless valleys, stone peaks, and ancient trails below. It will feel like standing on the edge of a lost world. With our spirits high, we will begin the descent into the Pacaymayo Valley, where the air grows warmer and the sound of a flowing stream welcomes us back to life.
Our campsite at 3,600 meters lies nestled beside a glacial creek, surrounded by steep ridges and open sky. In the afternoon, we’ll share a hot Andean meal prepared by our cook, infused with native flavors and warm spices. Tonight, we’ll rest our tired legs, listen to the quiet rush of the valley waters, and marvel at the stars overhead, knowing we’ve conquered the toughest, most rewarding day of the Peru Inca Trail.
Early we’ll wake to the cool scent of mist drifting through the mountains. After a warm breakfast, we will begin our ascent toward Runkurakay Pass at 3,850 meters of altitude. The trail will guide us through ancient stone paths wrapped in clouds and history. Along the way, we’ll visit the semi-circular Inca site of Runkurakay, once a vital tambo for chasquis, the empire’s swift-footed messengers.
As the sun rises higher, we’ll reach Sayacmarca, a majestic fortress clinging to the mountain ridge. From here, we’ll gaze out over the green abyss of the cloud forest, filled with birdsong and the earthy smell of moss and orchids. Stone stairways lead us deeper into the Andes, where each step takes us closer to the heart of the Inca world.
Later we’ll stop for lunch near Phuyupatamarca, the “Town Above the Clouds.” This mystical site, often shrouded in mist, offers surreal views and a deep sense of sacred silence. From there, the trail transforms. We’ll descend a dramatic staircase of carved stones, passing through tunnels, waterfalls, and lush vegetation bursting with bromeliads and hummingbirds.
By late afternoon, we plan to arrive at Wiñay Wayna, our final campsite at 2,650 meters of altitude. Here, we’ll explore the ruins, feel the pulse of the jungle, and share a heartfelt celebration with our porters and fellow trekkers. Under starlit skies and surrounded by living history, we’ll honor the end of this unforgettable chapter.
We will wake early and begin our final hike by torchlight. The trail will lead us toward Inti Punku, the Sun Gate. From here, we will see our first unforgettable view of Machu Picchu.
We will walk down to the Inca citadel and enter with our guide. A two-hour guided tour will help us explore sacred temples, fountains, and terraces. After the visit, we will descend to Aguas Calientes for lunch.
In the afternoon, we’ll take the train back to Ollantaytambo. From there, a bus will bring us to Cusco for a well-earned rest.
