FAQ'S

The most popular route begins through the town of Chiguata. A private vehicle picks you up from Arequipa and transports you over two hours to an altitude of approximately 3,400 meters above sea level. From this point, the ascent begins, typically spread over two days. On the first day, you’ll hike up to base camp, and on the second, you’ll reach the summit and descend back to the city—arriving around 4:00 PM. This journey offers panoramic views of the surrounding volcanoes, desert plains, and, ultimately, the breathtaking summit of one of Peru’s most revered peaks.

Day 1 – Arequipa – Chiguata – Base Camp (4,600 m.a.s.l.)

08:00 AM: Pickup from your hotel in Arequipa and transfer by 4×4 vehicle toward Chiguata. After approximately 1 hour, we leave the main road and continue toward the foothills of the Misti Volcano at 3,400 m.a.s.l.

10:00 AM: Arrival at the highest accessible point by vehicle and starting point of the ascent. From here, we begin our trek toward Base Camp, known as “Nido de Águilas” (Eagle’s Nest), located at 4,700 m.a.s.l. The hike will take between 6 to 8 hours, depending on your physical condition. The trail is sandy and steep.

Around 5:00 PM we arrive at Base Camp, where we set up our tents, have dinner, and rest for the summit attempt the next day.

  • Elevation gain: approx. 1,300 m
  • Hiking duration: 6–8 hours
  • Overnight at: 4,700 m.a.s.l. (Base Camp)
Day 2 – Base Camp – Misti Summit – Return to Arequipa

03:00 AM: We wake early for a light breakfast and prepare our summit gear (warm clothing, water, energy snacks, first aid kit, etc.). We begin the steep and challenging ascent to the summit of Misti.

The climb is vertical and cold, and proper acclimatization is essential. After several hours, we reach the summit marked by the iconic Iron Cross placed over 100 years ago. Here, we enjoy spectacular panoramic views and take photos of the volcanic landscape and surrounding Andean peaks.

If weather and timing permit, we may descend briefly into the crater to witness volcanic activity. At 12:00 PM, we begin the descent back to Base Camp, arriving at around 2:00 PM where a well-earned lunch awaits. We pack our gear and return to the initial trailhead, where our vehicle will be waiting.

04:00 PM: Arrival in Arequipa and end of the tour.
