At over 3,800 meters above sea level, Lake Titicaca is the world’s highest navigable lake and a Natural Heritage site of Peru, shared with neighboring Bolivia. During this two-day tour, you’ll visit the lake’s most emblematic islands: Uros, Taquile, and Amantani. Each island preserves its pre-Columbian traditions, from floating reed islands to ancient textile practices, offering you a rare opportunity to connect with living Andean culture.

Day 1 – Main Port – Uros Floating Islands – Amantani Island (Overnight)

The tour begins at 7:45 AM with pickup from your hotel. Our first stop will be the Uros Floating Islands, where you’ll learn how these unique islands were built atop the world’s highest navigable lake. Your guide will explain the cultural and historical significance of the Uros people. The visit lasts approximately 1.5 hours.

Afterward, we continue to Amantani Island, a 3-hour boat ride (approx. 9 km) across Lake Titicaca. Along the way, enjoy stunning views of the Andean mountain range. Upon arrival at the main port, the community president will welcome us and assign local families for your overnight homestay. The host families will provide meals, accommodation, and company.

In the afternoon, there is an optional hike to one of the sacred mountains, Pachatata, coordinated by the guide. Amantani is known for the kindness of its residents and the native Cantuta flower. The island is home to eight communities engaged in farming, sheep herding, and producing artisanal textiles and stone carvings. Dinner and overnight with your host family.

  • Activities: Cultural visit, boat ride, homestay, optional hike
  • Difficulty: Easy to moderate
Day 2 – Amantani – Taquile Island – Return to Puno

After a traditional breakfast, we continue to Taquile Island, about 1 hour away by boat. Once on the island, you’ll have time to explore this unique community. Taquileños are known for their cooperative and well-organized way of life and their remarkable textile craftsmanship, recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage.

On Taquile, men begin weaving from the age of 8, while women focus on spinning and dyeing. Life on the island remains largely untouched by modernity. You’ll have about 2 hours for a guided visit and an additional hour to enjoy a traditional lunch prepared by the locals. You’ll also have the opportunity to support the community by purchasing handmade crafts.

After lunch, your guide will confirm the return schedule. The boat departs back to Puno, arriving around 4:00 PM. End of services.

The “Uros, Taquile & Amantani Islands 2 Days” tour was a beautiful and enriching experience. Visiting the floating Uros Islands was fascinating, and I loved learning about the unique way of life there. Taquile and Amantani offered stunning views of Lake Titicaca and warm, welcoming communities. Spending two days exploring these islands gave me a deep appreciation for the culture and traditions of the locals. The homestay on Amantani was a highlight—very authentic and memorable. I highly recommend this tour for anyone wanting to connect with the people and nature of Lake Titicaca.
