A Valley of Unique Importance

The Sacred Valley possesses exceptional geographic and climatic characteristics that made it a strategic region for Inca agriculture.
The Incas, or Quechuas, transformed this area into one of their most important agricultural production centers, thanks to the fertility of its soil.
Unlike many regions of Peru, the Sacred Valley is known for producing the finest quality corn grain in the country.

Main Places to Visit
Pisac

Located 33 km from Cusco on a paved road, Pisac is part of the Sacred Valley of the Incas and features both an ancient town with one of the most important archaeological sites in the Cusco region and a modern colonial town.
Pisac is also famous for its artisan market, which draws thousands of visitors and locals dressed in colorful traditional garments.
This is an ideal place to buy handmade goods, as prices are typically lower than in Cusco.

Ollantaytambo

A classic Inca town located 21 km from Urubamba at 2,800 meters above sea level, Ollantaytambo is named after the local chief Ollanta, known for his romance with an Inca princess, daughter of Emperor Pachacutec.
One of its best-preserved sections stretches north of the Hanan Huacaypata plaza, consisting of 15 blocks of houses built on finely carved stone foundations.
On the hillside overlooking the town, you’ll find the vast archaeological complex featuring the Temple of the Sun, the Intihuatana, and the Princess’ Baths.
From here, a road leads to the Málaga Pass (4,200 m) and into the cloud forest, passing villages like Huilloc, known for its artisans and their distinctive red-and-black attire.

Chinchero

Located 28 km from Cusco on the road to Urubamba, Chinchero was once the royal estate of Tupac Inca Yupanqui.
It features a beautiful colonial temple built upon Inca foundations, but its main attraction is its vibrant artisan market.
Originally a bartering space between highland and valley communities, it is now a colorful spectacle of traditional Andean textiles and crafts.
Visitors can also witness live demonstrations of natural wool dyeing, using local plants, seeds, and minerals — a practice preserved from pre-Columbian times.

Itinerary
Full-Day Sacred Valley Tour

The tour begins at approximately 8:00 AM and ends around 7:00 PM. We will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco 10 to 15 minutes before the start of the excursion.

Our first stop is the **archaeological site of Pisac**, located 45 minutes from Cusco by tourist transport. Pisac will give you a clear view of the Incas’ advanced architectural knowledge.
Rather than a fortress, many believe it was a **royal estate** belonging to Inca Pachacutec, composed of terraces, ceremonial areas, housing structures, and aqueducts that supported agricultural activities.
Another highlight is the famous **Pisac artisan market**, where you can shop for unique, authentic souvenirs.

At midday, we head to the town of **Urubamba**, where you will enjoy a delicious **buffet lunch** with a variety of traditional Peruvian dishes.
Urubamba was a major agricultural hub during the Inca Empire and is still known for producing the **best corn in the world**, along with high-quality seasonal fruits such as peaches, capulí cherries, quinces, and strawberries.

In the afternoon, we visit the impressive **Ollantaytambo Fortress**, which served as a strategic military, agricultural, and religious center to control and protect the Sacred Valley.
You’ll see a series of well-preserved **terraces**, **military walls**, and **watchtowers**, as well as massive stone blocks finely carved and fitted into the upper terraces.

On the way back to Cusco, we’ll stop at **Chinchero**, known as the “City of the Rainbow.”
Here, we visit the **Church of Our Lady of Monserrat**, built in 1607 on top of **Tupac Yupanqui’s royal palace**.
You will also see Inca terraces and enjoy its **colorful artisan market**, famous for high-quality textiles and traditional crafts.

The tour ends back in Cusco around **7:00 PM**, and we will drop you off near the **Main Square (Plaza de Armas)** or at your hotel.

The “Sacred Valley of the Incas Tour” was one of the best experiences I’ve had in Peru. Walking through ancient Inca sites and seeing the stunning landscapes made me feel connected to history in a special way. The guide was very knowledgeable and shared interesting stories about the Inca culture that really brought the places to life. I especially loved the peaceful atmosphere of the valley and the chance to visit local markets. It’s a must-do if you want to explore the heart of the Andes and learn about the incredible Inca civilization.
