Full Day – Cusco – Piuray Lagoon – Huchuy Qosqo – Cusco

This full-day trek includes approximately 8 hours of hiking (including breaks, lunch, and a guided tour of the archaeological site), crossing several ecological zones such as quechua, suni, and puna, each with its own unique flora and fauna.

We depart early from Cusco, heading north toward the Sacred Valley of the Incas. On the way to Chinchero, you’ll observe expansive agricultural fields that have been cultivated since ancient times. We continue along the shores of Piuray Lagoon to the community of Tauca (3,762 m / 12,343 ft), where our hike begins.

We follow a disused dirt road with a gentle incline toward the Pucajasa Mountain Pass (4,393 m / 14,413 ft), from where we’ll enjoy a spectacular view of the Urubamba mountain range. The pass extends about 200 meters in length. As we begin our descent, we encounter original Inca Trail sections and witness dramatic shifts in ecological zones.

We arrive at Huchuy Qosqo (3,688 m / 12,099 ft), where we enjoy lunch with a view. After a brief rest, we explore the archaeological complex before descending to the village of Lamay (2,938 m / 9,639 ft). There, our private transport will be waiting to take us back to the city of Cusco.

The “Huchuy Qosqo Trek Full Day” was a fantastic way to explore the Andes and discover a hidden gem. The trek was moderate but very rewarding, with stunning views of the surrounding valleys and mountains. Visiting the ancient ruins of Huchuy Qosqo was a highlight — peaceful, less crowded, and full of history. Our guide was knowledgeable and made the experience even more enjoyable by sharing interesting stories. I’d recommend this trek to anyone looking for a great day adventure near Cusco.
