Your journey includes boat rides along tropical rivers, visits to natural hot springs, guided jungle walks, and a thrilling night excursion to observe nocturnal wildlife such as tarantulas, frogs, and snakes. You’ll stay in private eco-lodges, including Paradise Lodge, and explore untouched parts of the jungle with expert naturalist guides. With over 1.7 million hectares of protected land, Manu offers a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience the heart of the Peruvian Amazon.

Day 1 – Cusco to Bambu Lodge (Cloud Forest)

We depart from Cusco at 6:00 a.m. in our private 4×4 vehicle, driving through the Andean mountains and passing traditional villages like Paucartambo and the pre-Inca burial tombs of Ninamarca. We reach Acjanaco Pass, the entrance to Manu National Park (3,830 m), and begin our descent into the lush cloud forest. This rich ecosystem is home to orchids, bromeliads, and a variety of wildlife. In the afternoon, we will take a walk to observe the iconic Andean Cock-of-the-Rock performing its mating dance. With luck, we may also see toucans, trogons, quetzals, monkeys, or even the elusive spectacled bear. Overnight at our private Bambu Lodge.

Day 2 – Bambu Lodge to Eco Manu Lodge

Early morning wake-up to the sound of birds, followed by a walk through the high Amazon forest to observe local agriculture, such as coca and yucca plantations. On the way to the port of Atalaya, we’ll spot monkeys, birds, and beautiful waterfalls. From there, we board our motorized boat and begin navigating the Alto Madre de Dios River.

In the afternoon, we’ll take a 3-hour guided hike into the rainforest in search of birds, reptiles, mammals, medicinal plants, and massive trees draped with hanging vines. Our guide will explain the fascinating interaction between flora and fauna. Optional night walks are available every night, guided by our naturalist staff.

Day 3 – Eco Manu Lodge: Clay Lick, Lagoon & Hot Springs

At dawn, we visit a local clay lick, where colorful parrots and parakeets gather to ingest mineral-rich clay—an essential detox part of their diet. After this natural spectacle, we return for a delicious breakfast.

Our day continues with a visit to Machuwasi Lagoon, where we’ll use telescopes to observe lake birds such as herons, hawks, hoatzins, oropendolas, and families of capybaras. If lucky, we might spot a large boa or even an anaconda.

In the afternoon, we hike to a natural hot spring deep in the rainforest, passing monkeys, sloths, and wild turkeys. Once there, enjoy a relaxing soak as the sun sets. After dark, we gear up for a night walk to observe jungle nightlife—tarantulas, owls, caimans, and, with great luck, the elusive jaguar. Overnight at Eco Manu Lodge.

Day 4 – Eco Manu Lodge to Cusco

We begin our return journey early in the morning. On the way back to San Pedro, we make a final stop to observe the Cock-of-the-Rock once more. Then, we continue by boat and bus, retracing our path through the Andes to reach Cusco by approximately 5:00 p.m., concluding our unforgettable Amazon adventure.
