This 8-day journey will take you through one of the most scenic regions of the Andes, offering a combination of archaeology, culture, and raw nature. Explore ancient Inca ruins sprawled across 20 hectares, surrounded by lush cloud forests, snowcapped peaks, and cascading waterfalls. Watch the majestic condor soar overhead and encounter indigenous communities that still preserve ancestral traditions.

Unlike the more popular Inca Trail, this route offers a truly off-the-beaten-path adventure, culminating in the ultimate reward: the sacred city of Machu Picchu. Ideal for seasoned trekkers and nature lovers looking to connect with Peru’s ancient heritage in a deeper, more authentic way.

Itinerary
Day 1: Cusco – Cachora – Capulichayoq – Chikisca

Early pickup from your hotel in Cusco at 5:00 am. Travel by private transport to San Pedro de Cachora (2800m) for breakfast, then continue to Capuliyoq, the starting point of the trek. Begin the 6–7 hour hike through diverse landscapes with panoramic views of the Apurímac Canyon. Lunch at Capulichayoc. Afterward, descend for 3 hours to our first campsite in Chikisca (1800m), surrounded by stunning natural scenery.

Day 2: Chikisca – Playa Rosalina – Marampata – Choquequirao

After breakfast, hike 45 minutes downhill to the Playa Rosalina bridge, then ascend for 4–5 hours to Marampata (2950m) for lunch and breathtaking canyon views. Continue 1 hour to the Inca site of Choquequirao (3033m) and set up camp with a direct view of the ruins. Afternoon visit to the agricultural sector before dinner.

Day 3: Guided Tour of Choquequirao

A full day dedicated to exploring Choquequirao. Your guide will explain the history and significance of the site, considered the sister city to Machu Picchu. Visit the urban, agricultural, and religious sectors and potentially observe condors. Return to the campsite for dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Choquequirao – Corihuayrachina

Cross the mountain of Choquequirao and descend into the valley before ascending to our next camp near the newly discovered ruins of Corihuayrachina. Along the way, pass the agricultural terraces of Pinchaunuyoc. Approximate walking time: 7–8 hours.

Day 5: Corihuayrachina – Yanama

Visit Corihuayrachina ruins, then continue ascending through dense vegetation to a high pass (approx. 4000m). Descend to a scenic area known as “the garden” before arriving at the mountain village of Yanama for overnight.

Day 6: Yanama – La Puerta – La Playa

Begin a peaceful descent to the second pass, reaching La Puerta (4400m). Enjoy mountain and glacier views before descending to the campsite in La Playa, a small village at lower elevation.

Day 7: La Playa – Llactapata – Aguas Calientes

Hike for 3 hours up original Inca paths to Llactapata ruins with panoramic views of Machu Picchu. After a guided tour, descend for 2 hours to Hidroelectrica for lunch, then continue the trek (2.5 hours) to Aguas Calientes. Option to visit Mandor Gardens. Overnight in a comfortable hotel.

Day 8: Machu Picchu – Cusco

Early breakfast and 1-hour hike up to Machu Picchu to catch the sunrise. Enjoy a 2-hour guided tour of the main temples and sites. Optional climb to Huayna Picchu (extra fee). Return to Aguas Calientes for lunch, then take the train to Ollantaytambo and a bus to Cusco, arriving around 8:00 pm. End of services.
