Just 6 kilometers from the port of Puno, at an altitude of 3,812 meters above sea level, lies one of the most unique cultural experiences in Peru: the Uros Floating Islands. This remarkable archipelago is made up of over 100 man-made islands constructed entirely from totora reeds and inhabited by the Uros people—descendants of one of the oldest civilizations in the Americas, believed to originate from the ancient Pukina culture.

FAQ'S

For centuries, the Uros have used totora not only to build their islands but also their homes, crafts, and even their traditional reed boats—often humorously referred to as the “Mercedes Benz” of the lake. During the tour, you’ll be guided by a local expert who will introduce you to the customs, daily life, and ingenuity of this resilient community. An optional reed boat ride is available for those who wish to glide across the waters of Lake Titicaca in the most authentic way.
